Three centuries of fine art in jewellery

EST. 1702 – MADE IN ENGLAND

The house

The House of Mozafarian is the custodian of a craft that nine generations of watchmakers and jewellers have carried, from an eighteenth century Swiss workshop to the Persian court, through Italy, and into London.

What began in a Swiss workshop took root in the Persian court, drew on the craft of Italy, and settled under the British hallmark. That inheritance lives in the creations: chosen with judgement, made by hand, and kept long after the occasion that called for it.

The Story

NEUCHÂTEL — PERSIA — EUROPE — LONDON

The story begins in 1702, in the watchmakers’ workshops of Neuchâtel, Switzerland, the cradle of one of the world's most enduring crafts.

It travels to the Persian royal court in 1821, when an invitation from the king brought our family’s Swiss precision into conversation with Persian artistry. A marriage into the royal line followed, and from it a new name was born. Mozafarian, victorious, has carried that union forward across nine generations and three centuries.

That line runs to the present day as the House of Mozafarian.

Abbas Mozafarian, Chairman

For more than six decades, Abbas Mozafarian has devoted his life to the craft of jewellery. Trained in Tehran and later rebuilding the House in London, he continues a family tradition that spans nine generations while ensuring it remains relevant to future generations.

Every creation receives equal attention

Jewellery made to last forever

The Mozafarian family's association with royal and distinguished patrons stretches back generations, from serving the royal houses of Persia to commissions that have been presented before heads of state and international dignitaries.

Among the most significant is the Royal Set, created for the 2,500-year celebration of the Persian Empire, a piece comprising thousands of precious gemstones.

The Mozafarian family is known for serving successive generations through life's most important occasions.

On one memorable occasion, Abbas was delighted to discover that a young woman he was helping had been introduced by her great-grandmother, whom he had assisted many years earlier for the very same event in her life.

Moments like this are a reminder that jewellery is often connected not only to individuals, but to family stories that continue across generations.

Made by the right hands

Image

Mozafarian pieces are created in the United Kingdom and Europe by highly skilled artisans, trained in the traditions of fine jewellery and accustomed to working with exceptional materials. Every piece is made to exacting standards, with British hallmarking and the discipline expected of a London house.

The family are members of the National Association of Goldsmiths and the British Jewellers' Association, follow the Kimberley Process, and do not deal in conflict diamonds. What begins as a personal commission is carried through a careful process of design, sourcing, making, finishing and certification, guided by craftsmanship, responsibility and trust.

Jewellery as art

Nine generations of artistic inheritance

Mozafarian's conviction is that jewellery, made well, is fine art by the same measure as any other. It is the disciplined use of skill and material to express humanity. The visual judgement of the eye. The choice of stone and metal to carry a feeling, a moment, a meaning. The patience of the hand. By that measure, the finest jewellery belongs in the same company as painting and sculpture.

And in one respect it goes further. Where a painting adorns your wall, jewellery is worn, and reflects who you are in the most intimate way. Few families have lived inside that tradition as long as this one. Nine generations in the fine arts, in the handling of rare materials and the reading of what a person wants a piece to say, is an education in beauty that cannot be acquired quickly.
